Diesel Exhaust Fluid
CLEAN, COMPLIANT DEF
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is a urea-based solution designed specifically for use in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems to reduce NOx emissions from diesel engines. Sun Coast Resources, LLC is a dedicated supplier of AirBlueFluids DEF.
AirBlueFluids DEF meets ISO 22241 for purity and composition, and is American Petroleum Institute (API) certified. Sun Coast is a wholesale DEF distributor serving the contiguous United States.
Sun Coast and AirBlueFluids are dedicated to meeting your DEF needs, to comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier II Exhaust Emission Standards.
DEF is available in a variety of storage and dispensing methods. The storage options we offer include various size containers, such as bulk, totes, bottles and jugs.
DEF Q&A
WHAT IS DEF?
Diesel exhaust fluid is one of the key elements of the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) process used by most medium and heavy-duty engine builders to meet EPA 2010 regulations. When injected into the exhaust stream and passed over a catalyst, DEF helps convert NOx into nitrogen gas and water vapor – two harmless and natural components of the air we breathe.
HOW MUCH DEF DO I NEED FOR MY FLEET?
DEF consumption will be approximately 2-3% of the diesel fuel consumed. Another way to consider it is that DEF will be consumed on a 50 to 1 ratio with diesel. (For every 50 gallons of diesel fuel burned, you will use 1 gallon of DEF). If you know the average fuel consumption of a vehicle, you can easily calculate the amount of DEF that will be used.
HOW SHOULD DEF BE STORED?
DEF should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight. While optimum storage temperature is about 77°F, temporary exposure to higher temperatures will have little to no impact on the quality.
WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF DEF?
DEF degrades over time depending on temperature and exposure to light. If stored between 10°F -90°F, shelf life will be around one year. If the maximum temperature does not exceed approximately 75°F for an extended amount of time, the shelf-life will be two years.
DOES DEF FREEZE?
A 32.5% solution of DEF will freeze at 12°F. During vehicle operation, SCR systems are designed to provide heating for the DEF tank and supply lines. If DEF freezes while vehicle is not in operation, the SCR system will quickly warm the DEF to liquid form, preventing inhibited operations. Additives are currently not approved for use with DEF as further blending could impeded its performance.
